The 2005 Synergy 65 Owner's Inaugural Blend is an inviting and full-bodied wine with a touch of spiciness (from the Syrah and Zinfandel components). Synergy 65 offers layers and layers of aroma and flavors, with hints of caramelized vanilla, white pepper and blackberry on the nose with black cherry and figs on the palate – resulting in a long velvety finish that lingers pleasantly to the end.
Monte De Oro's first proprietary red wine is comprised of 100% estate grown grapes from Monte De Oro's vineyards.
The wine's name – Synergy 65 – pays tribute to the cohesive vision and synergistic talents of Monte De Oro's members, which produce an outcome greater than the sum of the individual parts.
This blend consists of 36% Syrah, 20% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Zinfandel. Each of these wines, with the exception of Zinfandel, was barrel aged in French Oak for 16-20 months. The Zinfandel was barrel aged in American Oak.

Monte De Oro's Synergy 65 Blend provides a nice bouquet of green bell pepper and cinnamon on the nose. It is a medium bodied wine with tastes of ripe blackberry, cherry, cassis and boysenberry. This wine is soft and supple with a light and soft oak tastiness producing a velvety mouthfeel and a smooth, long finish.
This is Monte De Oro's second proprietary red wine and is comprised of 100% estate grown grapes from Monte De Oro's vineyards.

The 2006 Synergy 65 blend consists of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah, 24% Merlot and 17% Zinfandel. This wine was barrel aged for 24 months in 76% brand new French Oak barrels and bottled in October 2009. It then bottle aged for an additional 12 months.

Vista Del Monte Vineyard
The 2007 Syrah is composed of 100% Syrah and is a deep plum colored, full bodied wine offering a mid-palate, tannin structure. With a smoky and spicy bouquet on the nose, the wine leads to a dark, tart cherry, raspberry, chocolate-like taste. It has been suggested that there might be just a "soft kiss" of grapefruit in the middle of your palate providing a nice surprise when drinking. This should continue to mellow with age while providing a velvety finish.
Vista Del Monte Vineyard has 7,761 Syrah vines on 9.6 vineyard acres. The 2007 Syrah was harvested on October 7 and 8, 2007 and Monte De Oro's yield was 40.95 tons (5.1 tons per acre).
Fifty-six barrels were produced. Of this, 41 barrels were used to craft our 2007 Syrah (with the remaining 15 barrels being used for Monte De Oro's 2007 Synergy 65). The 2007 Syrah was barrel-aged in 100% French Oak for months -32% being aged in brand new French Oak barrels, 29% in 2 year old barrels, 7% in 3 year old barrels and the remaining 21% in neutral barrels. The 2007 Syrah was bottled in late July 2009 and bottle-aged for 14 months..

The 2006 Syrah Reserve is 100% Syrah and can be characterized as: a warm, deep and enveloping mouthful, loaded with deep blackcurrant flavors complemented by white peppers and a mellow spiciness that lingers on the palate. A long finish helps one to enjoy the balanced integration of this wine as it stretches out to a nice and mellow end.
Monte De Oro’s 2006 Syrah Reserve comes from four of the best barrels from our 2006 vintage. This wine was cultivated from our Vista Del Monte Vineyard and was barrel-aged for a total of 35 months and bottled on October 27, 2009.

The 2006 Syrah is composed of 100% Syrah and is a deeply colored, full-bodied wine loaded with rich blackberry and black currant fruit, complemented by hints of tobacco, black pepper and a very subtle earthiness. Soft but ample tannins provide structure and lead the way to a velvet-like lasting finish.
Vista Del Monte Vineyard has 7,761 Syrah vines on 9.6 vineyard acres. The 2006 Syrah was harvested on Friday and Saturday, October 20 and 21, 2006 and Monte De Oro's yield was 40.5 tons (4.20 tons per acre).
Thirty-eight barrels were produced – 55% brand new French Oak and 45% one- to two-year-old French Oak. The 2006 Syrah was barrel-aged for 20 months and bottled on August 27, 2008.

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot and can be characterized as an oaky, rich-colored wine that displays nice varietal aromas of black cherry, black currant and blackberry with nuances of green olive and bell pepper. A rich mouthfeel with firm tannins is framed by hints of vanilla and cocoa leading the way to a dry finish.
Vista Del Monte Vineyard has 4,420 Cabernet Sauvignon vines on 5.2 vineyard acres. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested on October 14 and 14, 2007 producing 27 tons (2.7 tons per acre). Monte De Oro retained 20 tons of grapes to make our 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon while selling the remaining tons.
Forty eight barrels were produced with 32 barrels being used to craft our 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (the remaining 16 barrels being used to produce Monte De Oro's 2007 Synergy 65 blend). The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon was barrel-aged in 100% French Oak for 20 months – 33% was aged in brand new oak barrels; 17% in 2 year old barrels and 50% in 3-4 year old barrels. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon was bottled in August 2009 and bottled aged for an additional 14 months.

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and has great Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics: a rich body, black currant, soft tannins with layers of vanilla and clove; a very nice integration of fruit and oak.
Monte De Oro's 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve comes from four of our best barrels of the 2006 vintage. This wine was cultivated from our Vista Del Monte Vineyard and was barrel-aged for a total of 36 months. It was bottled on October 27, 2009.

The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and can be characterized as: a rich-colored wine that displays nice varietal aromas of black currant and blackberry with nuances of bell pepper and violets. Soft tannins are framed by hints of vanilla and cocoa leading the way to a silky finish.
Vista Del Monte Vineyard has 4,420 Cabernet Sauvignon vines on 5.2 vineyard acres. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested on Saturday, September 30, 2006 and Monte De Oro's yield was 22.5 tons (4.3 tons per acre).
53 barrels were produced with 59% being brand new French Oak, and 41% being two- to four-year-old French Oak. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon was barrel-aged for 21 months and bottled on August 6, 2008.

DePortola Vineyard
The 2007 Cabernet Franc is 100% Estate Grown composed of 95% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a deep color, is full bodied, balanced and well integrated with sweet blackberry flavors complemented by a touch of bell pepper, spice and a light, earthy quality. Firm tannins provide a long, lingering finish.
Monte De Oro's DePortola Vineyard has 2,103 Cabernet Franc vines on 2.6 vineyard acres. The 2007 Cabernet Franc was harvested on October 4, 2007 producing a yield of 15 tons (5 tons per acre).
Twenty two barrels were produced with 36% being brand new French Oak; 45% 2 year old French oak; and 18% being 3-4 year old neutral French oak barrels. The 2007 Cabernet Franc was barrel-aged for 22 months and bottled in August 2009. It then bottle aged for 15 months before its release in January 2011.

The 2007 Merlot is composed of 77% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. It is a medium bodied, dry wine offering soft tannins throughout the palate with hints of blackberry and earthiness on the nose. When tasting it, it explodes with a rich, cherry taste that produces a buttery, smooth mouthfeel. It has a nice, long finish that softly fades away.
Monte De Oro's DePortola Vineyard has 5,157 Merlot vines on 6.4 vineyard acres. The 2006 Merlot was harvested on September 5, 2008 producing 11.9 (1.20 tons per acre).
Monte De Oro's 2007 Merlot was barrel aged in 100% French Oak for 21 months. 23% was aged in brand new French oak while 77% was aged in 1 and 2 year oak barrels. The 2007 Merlot and was bottled in Ocotber 2009 and bottled aged for an additional 13 months...

The 2006 Merlot is composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and can be characterized as: a medium-bodied wine offering soft tannins throughout the palate, with bright cherry fruit complemented by hints of boysenberry and blueberry.
Monte De Oro's DePortola Vineyard has 5,157 Merlot vines on 6.4 vineyard acres. The 2006 Merlot was harvested on Labor Day, September 4 and Monte De Oro's yield was 14.63 tons (2.28 tons per acre).
Forty-eight barrels were produced with 40% being brand new French Oak, 35% being one-year-old French Oak and 25% being two- to three-year-old French Oak. The 2006 Merlot barrel-aged for 21 months and was bottled on August 16, 2008.

Galway Vineyard
The 2007 Zinfandel is 100% Estate Grown Zinfandel. It has a light color with soft to moderate tannins. Offering aromas of raspberry and raisin on the nose, this wine provides a jammy taste of raspberries, pomegranate, bing cherry, cinnamon and spice along with a moderate to long finish.
Galway Vineyard has 5,429 Zinfandel vines on 6.7 vineyard acres. The 2007 Zinfandel was harvested on October 18, 2007 and produced 32.68 tons (4.7 tons per acre).
Fifty eight barrels were produced with the wine being barrel aged in 72% French Oak and 28% American Oak for 22 months. 24% of the wine was barreled in brand new oak; 50% in 2 year old oak; 2% in 3 year old and 24% in 4 year old oak barrels. The 2007 Zinfandel bottled in August 2009 and bottled aged for an additional 17 months before release.

The 2006 Zinfandel is 100% Zinfandel and can be characterized as: full of rich, jammy fruit that serves as the backbone of this big, intense wine; bursting with red raspberries, ripe berries, chocolate and hints of white pepper and cinnamon stick.
Galway Vineyard has 5,429 Zinfandel vines on 6.7 vineyard acres. The 2006 Zinfandel was harvested on Friday September 29 and Sunday October 1 and Monte De Oro's yield was 26.8 tons (2.97 tons per acre).
Forty barrels were produced with 29% being brand new American Oak, 14% brand new French Oak and 57% being two- to three-year-old American & French Oak. The 2006 Zinfandel barrel aged for 21 months and was bottled on August 8, 2008.
